About Us

Established on 1st September 2019, Jagaran Natya Dal completes its first year of existence with the launch of this magazine. With a vision to make the society a better place, it started with eleven people as its members. Inspired by the film প্রলয় (Proloy) and its depiction of ‘Jagaran Mancha’, the name ‘Jagaran Natya Dal’ was finalized for the group. The name in Bengali roughly translates to ‘awakening’ which is what the group aims to do. The group consists of people with profound love for literature, who have come together to serve the society through various art forms, most notably theatre.
To make aware is to awaken. When the society is made aware of the evils that is lurking around, we definitely believe that the society will awaken to destroy those evils and make it a safe heaven for all and sundry. Awareness is the key and hence Jagaran Natya dal has already performed a drama called অদৃশ্য খাঁচা (Adrisso Khacha) which brings in limelight a social evil that has hid itself in our bedrooms since ages. And with the publication of ‘WO(w)MAN!’, it has been looking forward to send out a strong message that women suppression and domination is absolutely wrong and that gender equality and acknowledging the contribution of the women at large will only help in the progress of our society.
Now with twenty-nine members, Jagaran Natya Dal will look forward to expanding its ever-widening audience and capture the minds of the young and the old through more activities like drama, audio-story and magazine publication. “People for people’s sake” is what we believe in. Our society needs to awaken and to awaken they must be made aware; the onus is on us and we will look forward to living up to the expectations that society has of us. For too long now, we have continuously exploited society for our needs, it is time that we give something back to the society that sustains us. With that in mind and change in our hearts, the members of Jagaran Natya Dal look forward to a better society to live and let live.
