Have wars won anything till date? They have brought destruction, despair and endangered the lives of countless human beings in our planet. Kingdoms have been to wars since times immemorial, spilling the bloods of thousands of soldiers and innocents alike. The question that we should frame for ourselves is a very important one: Can wars bring peace? We have seen a mammoth world war rock the earth from 1914 to 1919 and yet we have let ourselves indulge in another horrific one twenty years later. Have you seen how the innocents were killed by the effects of the two atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, effects of which are still borne by the people living there? What about the families of the 2.5 million Indians who went to war for the British and lost their lives?
Our world has various groups of people, all having different characteristic features and behavioural pattern and hence differences in opinions are common. Although it is fair to have different viewpoints but at the end all of us wants to be in peace. We have run after peace, we have fought wars to be in peace, but we have never directly searched for peace. Violence is not the way to have peace, anger is not the emotion that helps you to be in peace, only non-violent methods can bring you peace. History is testimony to the fact that non-violence has succeed in bringing peace. At the end of the day, if a piece of paper can bring peace, then why shall humanity go to war? Non-violent agreements, mutual understanding, and an astute will to always be in peace can only take us to live non-violently because violence can only destruct whereas peace can only be constructed.
