Republic of India

India, a name which has many layers to it. India came into existence only recently. Prior to that this sacred land has hosted many a religion, seen many an empire rise and fall, contributed to the rise of religions and seen many try to conquer it. But with the turn of the 19th century the people of India rose against their oppressors. After a lot of struggle and bloodshed the people of India finally managed to declare complete swaraj on the 26th day of January 1930. India finally got Independence from the Britishers on 15th August 1947 and in 1950 India was declared to be democratic republic. Officially known as the Republic of India, India is the largest republic in the world. India allows all its citizens to vote to elect the president of the country which also makes it the largest democracy of the world.

Typically, on the republic day, India displays its military power through army marches in various parts of the country, most notably in front of the India gate in Delhi. India’s military power grew leaps and bound, and it currently stands at the fourth position in the world and has its own nuclear weapons. India’s no first attack policy speaks volumes about its wish to maintain peace across the globe.

India is a land of diversity, with over 28 official languages spoken. A land of many cultures and religions, India’s policy to be republic only helps it survive. Regional leaders from different parties represent different people and the republican stance makes their voices heard which would otherwise have been impossible in a totalitarian setup prevailing in a diverse country. India, therefore, cares about its citizens which is aptly voiced by the government which is of the people, by the people and for the people.
