Waves of Life

Our oceans are very valuable in our lives. They have enormous quantities of food in them and they directly support our food chain. They cover a huge amount of area, close to 70% and hence become very crucial to our sustainability. For years now we have used the oceans to our benefits. We have killed the fishes it had to offer, even killing the largest mammal on earth, the Blue Whale for meat. We have destroyed the corals and have used them as per our needs. Perhaps, travelling is the single most important thing that we do on our oceans. We have used massive ships and submarines to travel from one piece of land to the land. We have fought wars on it and even conducted nuclear tests without even caring to what happens to the health of ocean because of it.
Plastic pollution is probably the biggest contributor to water pollution in general and ocean pollution in particular. Improper disposal of plastics and casual usage of it has endangered lives under the waters of our oceans. As plastics live for centuries they pollute the living world beneath the waves of bliss. Plastics have been retrieved from the stomachs of fishes as they eat them unawares and choke themselves to death.
And we have not stopped at that. Travelling on oceans have caused accidents. The sinking ships carry huge quantities of oil aground which gets spilled and contaminate the water. This spilled oil which isn't soluble floats on the water preventing sunlight and other useful gases from getting into the water which slowly kills the underwater life. The use of explosives during wars, on and under it have also taken the ocean life to the brink of destruction. Nuclear submarines and nuclear warheads used on oceans have caused severe radiations that has nearly wiped out the beautiful life under those dancing waves. The falling rocket parts from the sky to propel our desire to know the world outside of Earth has actually taken the lives of creatures unknown to us.
While our planet provides such blue oceans and an amazing food chain we have darkened its colour and are bent upon disrupting our food chain. We have used oceans for all shorts of purposes but have never taken care of it. So its time to come together and protect our oceans from destruction. Starting from the basic rule i.e, to throw wastes in Dustbin to undertake difficult tasks such us clearing oil spills we can and we should protect our oceans. This Ocean Day hence I urge you all to stop polluting water bodies and start caring about ourselves and our activities in order to curb genocide against the living world below the vast blue waters.
